Although firmly established, this English gin is worth a mention of because this Distilleries place in the renaissance of gin in the UK in recent years. I’m not going to retell the story here – you can use Google for that, but for those of you that haven’t yet visited The Ginstitute – this is a ‘must do’ experience for any gin lover.
Portobello Road Gin is a fantastic ‘traditional’ London Dry Gin that is a firm favourite at home, it seems we make several bottles a year vanish! It’s hearty enough to make great cocktails but stands up for itself as a lovely bright gin and tonic that’s not too junipery. The gin has some lovely fresh citrus notes and warm spices.
As a G&T it partners beautifully with all traditional garnishes, although it seems to work best with a big freshly cut slice of pink grapefruit.
I don’t think you can get a better gin for £25….. This gin should definitely be a stock item at home! Vera Gin Rating : 8/10
Portobello Road Gin is now widely available for about £25 for 70cl, you can buy directly from the distillery here.
